You punched him? Oh, my. I had no idea there was such animosity between the two of you, to begin with...
[ Not that he's surprised other people don't take as well to Felix's bullshit as he does, but. Well. Hopefully this isn't grounds for calling off the truce...?! ]
Ah! Well there’s no need to worry, I repaired the damage and we’re on friendly terms now, I think?
[ She considers for a moment why Dimitri felt the need to reach out to her regarding this matter in the first place and a few pieces click into place. It’s been so long since she was a proper Black Eagle that she hadn’t thought about the wyvern in the room, so to speak. ]
I’m not a Black Eagle, if that’s why you were concerned. I spent most of my time in the academy in the Golden Deer house, actually. I’m terribly sorry—I didn’t even consider the tension between factions in all of this. I would never want to be the cause of any needless fighting.
[ He... thinks?? Honestly, not many people can handle Felix, he knows, but if Dorothea turns out to be one of them, then he is not about to complain.
What she says next, though, ah. So this isn't the same Dorothea who used to be here, after all. ]
And do not concern yourself with that, Dorothea. I admit our standing truce is something I value, but mostly I was worried about Felix's behavior towards you. Whether we are on the same side or not, I cannot stand idly by and watch as he mistreats someone in times of relative peace, least of all a former classmate.
[ So he was just... concerned? About her? It's a little sad, a little upsetting in retrospect; the Dimitri they'd met on Gronder Field was a man so twisted by rage that he was barely recognizable. That he can be here, now, reaching out to her over his concern for Felix simply being mean to her makes her feel a familiar pang of sadness. If only they'd been able to help him, to do something to bring him back to his senses, then maybe... But no. She won't let herself go down that road. That door closed a long time ago, and he's already shed too many tears because of this war. ]
Dimitri, I'm touched. You were just worried about little old me? You're a sweetheart, truly. You should join me for tea sometime, so we can catch up. Have you been here long?
[ Dorothea is... touched over some minor concern? Isn't that what just anyone else should do if they were to witness such injustice? Then again, she was a commoner, so perhaps the world-- and the nobility-- haven't been very kind to her, huh... ]
Please, think nothing of it. I simply did what I thought was right.
[ He is no sweetheart, really. If anything, the Golden Deer he has met in this island seem to have seen the worst of him; maybe that was the actual reason for Dorothea's surprise, to run into a monster who has suddenly learned to care. ]
That aside, I have been here for quite some time, as a matter of fact. About nine moons, give or take. I hope the island has been treating you kindly since you arrived?
[ For someone who'd literally been trampled in the street by the nobility? Yes, even a little concern can be surprising. It's less so from Dimitri, who had been a sweet (if troubled) young man, by all accounts, and she's playing it up a bit because that's just the sort of thing she does, but yes. People caring about her can still surprise her at times, but it's a pleasant surprise. ]
I appreciate it all the same. You didn't have to take time out of your day to fret over me, but you did. Thank you.
[ That comes across a bit more sincere, at least. As for the length of time he's been here, she can't help but boggle a little. ]
Nine moons? That must seem like a lifetime! The island has been all right, barring one or two incidents. It's better than the war, at any rate. I'm glad that everyone has been getting along here, for the most part.
[ Well. He'll take her thanks, even if he thinks it's unnecessary. He knows much has changed since the days they were all classmates, but he would still like to befriend his Fódlan compatriots if possible... ]
Better than the war, eh? Despite many incidents, that is something you and I can easily agree on. There may be much work to be done back home, but the same can be said about our time here. Much that all of us can learn.
[ About each other, their ideals, and the world they wish to see. If they can make an honest effort to work together and understand each other... then surely there must be a way to change the outcome of war. ]
Unfortunately, Felix seems like he might not be getting along as well with others as I would hope. [ Not... that he would expect much different, but. ] Please, do let me know in case he disturbs you beyond tolerance.
[ Reading Dimitri's message, Dorothea thinks--not for the first time--that things could have turned out so differently if the house leaders had been able to trust one another enough in their youth to to open up about their hopes and hardships. It's not worth dwelling on, she knows; that isn't what happened, and there's no way to change it. Still, since there are obviously different version of their own world, it's easy to wish for one where a peaceful resolution was found, rather than five bloody years of war. ]
I'm glad we're in agreement. I think you're right, too, about having a lot to learn--about ourselves as much as each other, wouldn't you say?
And so far as Felix is concerned, I think your concern is unwarranted. He just invited me to spar with him, which I believe is Felix code for respect or admiration. That or he's flirting with me, I honestly can't tell. But, suffice to say, I believe I have him in hand at this juncture.
[ Regarding learning about themselves, that is. But when it comes to Felix... hmm. He's not sure he'd say sparring is an attempt at romance-- because Felix has invited him to spar plenty of times before and surely Dorothea is much more worthy of being flirted with than him-- but hey! Dimitri once gave a dagger to the girl he liked, so who is he to talk about appropriate displays of affection!! ]
As for Felix, I can at least say with certainty this is how he reaches out to people. He would not waste his time sparring with someone he did not deem worthy. I have to admit, that does put me more at ease.
[ Don't put yourself down, Dimitri. You're very flirtworthy, okay? Not that Dorothea's going to give him that kind of talk without, y'know, getting to know him much better, but still. Believe in yourself. ]
I'm glad to hear it. Honestly, there's no need for you to worry. Even if we had a tiff every now and then, I know how to handle men that are too big for their britches. I'd rather not be at odds with anyone from home in a place like this, though. We're all in the same boat now, so to speak.
A short while later...
